Learning to get your site ranked on the search engines is not that hard.  It just takes time and lots of research skills and the ability to learn. 

Unlike many industries or skills, the search engines display their results to whoever goes there, giving you a perfect way to study what they want, how they work, and what sites rank and why.   In a way, it is like watching the stock market or the real estate market and making imaginary 'buys.' 


Here are some suggestions and steps you can take to start learning what is going on and learn to market your website online. 

First of all you have to start taking notes and learn how to do research. Set up your own research project, and while it may seem tedious an boring, it will pay off 10-fold.

Start taking notes.  The only three Search Engines to really worry about are Google, MSN and Yahoo.  And of those, it is Google and Yahoo where the big money is.   MSN has something like 10% of the market.    However, MSN is a simple, fast and easy search engine to rank on, so start there.  

Do a number of searches, and visit all of the sites taking notes of everything you can think of.    There are plenty of articles and information online on what to look for.   Start with the basics.    Do separate searches for highly competitive keywords, not so competitive and low competition keywords. 

Keep track of everything and then go back in 3 weeks or a month and see what has changed.
